Epson Printer 9900

The Epson 9900 printer needs a replacement maintenance tank. We will do out best to purchase the tank Friday, Nov. 4th in the morning. No large format printing on that printer can be performed until this component is replaced.

Adobe CS on the 3rd Floor

On the third floor computer bank:

P3-01 : does not log onto student or labasst accounts
P3-02, 03, 06 and 07: Illustrator times out after launching and is non responsive: Illustrator times out after launching and is non responsive
P3-04 and 05: Illustrator launches but gives this message: "Can't locate the startup profiles. Please try installing illustrator again. Illustrator will now attempt to launch a default document". The document loads and is editable, but this error message indicates some bug.

All workstations launch Photoshop, but time out and fail to respond.

When launching Bridge, this error message appears: "The operation could not be completed. An unknown operating system has occurred". The program then quits unexpectedly.

Needless to say, there is an issue with the Adobe CS that will be addressed immediately. This issue should be resolved by the end of the week.

Teacher 214

9/25/2011

Teacher 214 is behaving more and more erratically on Mac side. We switched out this machine with ws12. I suspect that this is due to Bootcamp being used frequently on teacher 214, and that performance of ws12 will quickly deteriorate in this new location.

Teacher Outreach

Amanda will be reaching out to faculty to set up a time to teach his/her class the do's and dont's of the A/V carts in the classrooms and A/V set ups for seminar rooms and labs.

COMMUNICATING LIBRARY ON GOINGS

We will now use the blog for everything that goes on in the library, labs, classrooms, seminar rooms and computer banks. This means that we no longer put post-its to make notes for one another in the library, we will use the blog as the primary means of communicating. These communications will be organized via labels to facilitate organization and centralization within the blog. Whether a computer is down in a lab or we are missing a lens cap on a camera, everything must be blogged-aside from teacher/student complaints/issues/concerns, for which Joe and Amanda should be emailed about. Read the following post to learn how to label a blog post.

ORGANIZING THE BLOG

Organize the blog posts by doing the following:

Make your post. When finished, click on the bottom right dialog box that says "Labels for this post". Enter one of the following Labels from this list:

Labs
Library
Classrooms
Seminar Rooms
Computer Banks
Instructions

The labels designate locations in the building. Label your post according to the location of the problem/solution/announcement that is being blogged. The label "Instructions" is for student workers and staff instructions.

He will get a new engine board and do a firmware update on the machine earliest by Friday, or early next week. The printer functions, though it is sporadically unresponsive/slow to process jobs.

Having continued browser failures on ws20. I believe I've traced to problem to a CGExceptionFailure error message.
Erased

So far, this seems to have resolved browser issues. Requires further testing!

Library Shifts

We need to be sure that someone is minding the library from 12:00 - 5:00 Monday through Friday. This will be handled by student workers once we are fully staffed. Meantime, if you are working in the library, do not leave the library for more than 5 minutes at a stretch. We need to avoid hanging an out-to-lunch sign on library door and be open when we say we are open.
Thanks,
J

Papercut

Papercut logs reported a permissions error preventing access to CSS file.
I reinstalled PapercutNG on Macserver.
I flushed all users from Summer 2011 residencies from the LDAP and resynced users on PCNG.
I removed restrictions from the student account.
Added restriction to Xerox 7760 to prevent anyone but the admin group from printing color.
Now student user login to computer also authenticates to PCNG web app, student can print unrestricted B&W, but must specify B&W image quality.
That is, color prints are simply blocked, not converted to grayscale.

Next, will need to create and distribute a B&W printing preset for 7760, and modify plist file on all workstations to set this preset as default.
